Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) – B Certification Program
Our 12-week Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) – Basic Certification Program gives students an overview of the Emergency Medical Services field.
During the course of our hands-on training in our state-of-the-art simulation labs, our students will:
Major Areas of StudyÌý
- Introduction to Emergency Medical Services: Overview of EMS systems, roles, responsibilities, and legal/ethical considerations.Ìý
- Patient Assessment: Techniques for evaluating patient conditions, including primary and secondary assessments.Ìý
- Airway Management: Methods to ensure open airways and adequate ventilation in emergencies.Ìý
- Medical Emergencies: Recognition and management of conditions like cardiac arrest, respiratory distress, and diabetic emergencies.Ìý
- Trauma Emergencies: Care for injuries such as fractures, bleeding, and spinal injuries.
- Special Populations: Tailored approaches for pediatric, geriatric, and obstetric patients.
- EMS Operations: Safe ambulance operations, incident management, and communication protocols.Ìý
Key Psychomotor Skills 
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Performing chest compressions and rescue breathing for cardiac arrest patients.Ìý
Airway Adjuncts
Using oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal airways to maintain airway patency.Ìý
Oxygen Administration
Delivering oxygen via masks and nasal cannulas.Ìý
Bleeding Control
Applying direct pressure, tourniquets, and hemostatic agents to manage severe bleeding.Ìý
Splinting and Immobilization
Stabilizing fractures and spinal injuries with splints and backboards.Ìý
Automated External Defibrillation (AED)
Operating AEDs to restore heart rhythm in sudden cardiac arrest.Ìý
Patient Extrication
Safely removing patients from hazardous environments using proper lifting techniques.
